MODI’IN
2020
450sqm
Elgal, a family company and the only importers of Vitra products and Koret kitchens, both leading European brands, founded in 1990 by the father of the family that later on his two sons joined him. The showroom is located in the industrial area of the city of Modi’in. The company’s building includes their offices and the large hangar where their storage area is managed.

At the beginning the company requested of me to create a homely feeling for the visitors coming to the showroom. The home as an abstract and subjective concept had been a challenge for me to create, considering that each individual experiences the feeling of home differently. An additional challenge had been to present two different exhibitions in a showroom of only 400 meters: Bathrooms and Kitchens.
The concept was to guide the visitors through a museum like narrative of an installation with changing exhibitions. This is a fabricated story that integrates a number of elements into one. The need to create a clear picture of home led me to plan physical spaces that would inspire the visitor to remain in them and to pass through the metaphysical spaces between them. There are walkthrough areas and crossways for observing in wonderment.
The home is divided into three vertical components: Floor, Wall and Roof. The floor is characterized by in-floor lighting strips, the walls are designed as low partitions that you can see over them, and the roof is represented by the suspended lights. In these areas I integrated universal characteristic of home design.
In the one large area I created multiple smaller areas so that the visitor can chose to experience a small room or look around and take in the entire area.
